Vauxhall election: Local bloggers report hustings success for anticapitalists

I went to St Mark's Church hustings for the Vauxhall election  in Oval last night. At least two hundred people turned up to hear the debate, with the church full almost to capacity.

The main three parties were all present along with some other candidates – from the Socialist Party of Great Britain, the Animal Liberation Party, and the Greens.

Local bloggers and journalists have kindly commented on how I put forward a strong Anticapitalist message for socialism.

The Onionbagblog writer, Jason Cobb wrote:
"Drinkall of the Anticapitalist party confirmed his credentials as a skilled, and yes, an intelligent public speaker"
"Drinkall repeated his call to nationalise the banks and to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. In return, the Anticapitalist candidate pledged to spend the money saved on eradicating poverty from Vauxhall and building new homes. I rather like Drinkall’s connection between the international and the hyperlocal."

"Drinkall drew upon his own status as a teaching assistant, congratulating teachers and support staff locally, but calling for an increase in funding."

"A rather deviously framed question asking simply about “the triangle” followed, put forward with the distinct aim of questioning the local knowledge of the candidates. The background is the threatened closure of the Triangle Adventure Playground close to the Archbishop Tenison’s School. Drinkall wasn’t fooled and knew his patch well."

"Drinkall positively countered the broken society stuff, said that crime levels are actually going down, and welcomed further immigration. Exciting words from Lambeth politicians!"

"Two of his party's policies are apparently very popular locally; to nationalise the banks and bring the troops back to the UK"

The SE1 website said:
Anticapitalist Jeremy Drinkall said that his policies were proving extremely popular on the doorstep. "We are against the trillion pound bailout which gave our money to the rich bankers and we want to end the war in Afghanistan."
